[0:01]
hi everyone my name is Sam for the past
[0:04]
three months I was a volunteer for the
[0:05]
Oregon state parks and yesterday I was
[0:08]
dismissed there are some videos on this
[0:11]
channel about
[0:12]
that I'm letting the matter go but
[0:14]
there's one last video this one that I
[0:16]
want to make and that is because there's
[0:18]
something I want to put into the public
[0:20]
record it should technically already be
[0:22]
in the public record but I don't have
[0:24]
confirmation of this and so I feel like
[0:28]
I need to do it this way just to to
[0:30]
ensure that it is this is going to be my
[0:33]
way of letting the matter go I don't
[0:35]
want to pursue it further because I've
[0:36]
already given enough energy to them I've
[0:39]
given them enough opportunities to
[0:41]
course correct and they never did they
[0:43]
dismissed me with very generic language
[0:45]
they never acknowledge what I'm about to
[0:47]
read to you it's an email to Allison
[0:49]
Watson she's the engagement programs
[0:52]
manager at the Oregon parks and
[0:53]
recreation department she oversees the
[0:56]
entire volunteer program and she's the
[0:57]
one who dismissed me I sent her the
[1:00]
email and she ignored
[1:02]
it so I'm going to read it to you now
[1:05]
I'll also include it in the comments and
[1:06]
the
[1:08]
description and that will just be my way
[1:10]
of ensuring that it's a public record I
[1:13]
can't promise that I'll read it really
[1:14]
well this isn't something I do when I
[1:16]
record videos it's completely stream of
[1:18]
Consciousness just like I'm speaking now
[1:20]
I don't really read out loud like this
[1:22]
but I will do my best I hope that you
[1:24]
will listen I think that the things that
[1:26]
I rais in this letter are very important
[1:30]
I hope that at some point this is seen
[1:31]
by someone in a position of authority at
[1:34]
Oregon State Parks who will take it
[1:35]
seriously and have it investigated
[1:38]
because I'm trying to avoid harm to
[1:41]
others you know there are other
[1:42]
volunteers there all the time and
[1:45]
there's no way that what happened to me
[1:46]
is an isolated situation I know it's not
[1:53]
and somebody has to do something but I
[1:56]
can't keep devoting energy to something
[1:58]
that you know they dismiss me it's my
[2:00]
part is done as far as I'm concerned so
[2:01]
let me just read the
[2:03]
letter hi Alon thank you again for
[2:06]
taking the time to speak with me I've
[2:09]
reflected on our conversation and want
[2:10]
to offer some additional context for the
[2:12]
record both to clarify key points and to
[2:15]
express concern about how some of what I
[2:16]
shared may be
[2:18]
interpreted throughout our conversation
[2:20]
I sensed a familiar pattern where
[2:22]
thoughtful human interactions were being
[2:24]
reframed post Haw as inappropriate or
[2:26]
concerning that reframing is not new to
[2:28]
me I experienced it often during my time
[2:30]
at Honeyman and it appeared again during
[2:32]
our call I want to be transparent about
[2:35]
what I witnessed and how it continues to
[2:36]
shape my understanding of the
[2:38]
institutional Dynamics at
[2:39]
playe some moments I feel are important
[2:43]
to emphasize Ryan telling me to eat
[2:46]
class during our March 5 meeting was not
[2:48]
a miscommunication it was inappropriate
[2:51]
and aggressive what I did not mention in
[2:53]
the call but now want to add is that he
[2:55]
used the same phrase in the Welcome
[2:56]
Center the very first time he confronted
[2:58]
me that makes it set a pattern I have
[3:01]
reason to believe this is not an
[3:02]
isolated
[3:03]
incident at the end of that March 5
[3:06]
meeting Ryan spent 5 minutes repeating
[3:07]
that I could just leave if I felt
[3:09]
uncomfortable that wasn't support it was
[3:12]
pressure the interaction felt coercive
[3:14]
and deeply unprofessional and you can
[3:16]
hear it clearly in his
[3:17]
tone Logan's Behavior including doing
[3:20]
stretches in front of me during a long
[3:21]
shift at the welcome center created
[3:23]
discomfort and blurred
[3:24]
boundaries as a new volunteer I didn't
[3:27]
know how to respond appropriately to a
[3:28]
situation where I felt my
[3:30]
professionalism was being tested by
[3:31]
someone in a position of
[3:33]
authority Logan also told me that Ranger
[3:36]
leaf would train me a commitment he
[3:37]
never followed through on Leaf had no
[3:40]
knowledge of it that breach was the
[3:42]
final breakdown of trust in what was
[3:43]
already a fragile
[3:46]
Dynamic Ryan admitted in our meeting
[3:48]
that he never gave me the benefit of the
[3:50]
doubt beginning with my initial
[3:51]
interaction with Katie that admission
[3:53]
confirms the feeling I carried
[3:55]
throughout my time at Honeyman that I
[3:56]
was being judged through a fixed lens
[3:58]
regardless of my conduct
[4:01]
the journal incident was misrepresented
[4:03]
my comment to the ranger assistant not
[4:05]
all Rangers are helpful was not a
[4:08]
criticism of Staff it was an appeal to
[4:10]
ensure the journal was not ignored and
[4:11]
the lost and found as someone who has
[4:13]
been homeless I know the emotional
[4:15]
significance of a journal I was simply
[4:17]
asking that extra care be
[4:19]
taken the issue of guest perception was
[4:21]
related to my early text message to
[4:23]
Katie when the power went out my
[4:25]
statement that I own this problem in the
[4:26]
eyes of guests was not a
[4:28]
misunderstanding of my role it was an
[4:30]
accurate reflection of how gas C Park
[4:32]
hosts as the first point of contact my
[4:35]
message was about Optics not blame or
[4:38]
misalignment the common threat in all of
[4:40]
this what I believe is the real issue is
[4:42]
how I've held leadership accountable in
[4:44]
writing the primary concern Ryan raised
[4:47]
in that March 5 meeting was not my
[4:48]
behavior it was my emails the vast
[4:51]
majority of that meeting centered on my
[4:53]
written communication which I've always
[4:55]
approached with Clarity and intent the
[4:57]
discomfort in my view stemm not from
[4:59]
what I said but from the fact that I
[5:00]
said it in a format that created a
[5:02]
record this is an undeniable pattern
[5:05]
that strikes at the heart of
[5:06]
accountability and
[5:08]
transparency additionally I want to
[5:10]
acknowledge something I did not bring up
[5:11]
on the call I am aware of at least three
[5:14]
other volunteers who have had similar
[5:15]
challenges with
[5:16]
Ryan his behavior is not isolated his
[5:19]
approach to volunteers appears to follow
[5:21]
a consistent pattern I raise this not to
[5:23]
accuse but to suggest that what I
[5:25]
experienc fits into a broader pattern
[5:27]
that may be worth further attention I'm
[5:30]
not sharing this to escalate or attack
[5:31]
but to ensure that the story doesn't get
[5:33]
flattened into something it never was
[5:36]
I've remained calm communicative and
[5:38]
reflective throughout my time in this
[5:39]
program I've adapted learned and tried
[5:42]
to contribute with sincerity and care if
[5:45]
there are aspects of my communication
[5:47]
style that feel different that is not a
[5:49]
threat it's a strength and it should not
[5:51]
be weaponized to create distance or
[5:54]
distrust all I ask is this that this be
[5:57]
viewed with honesty and fairness I am
[5:59]
not not asking for special treatment
[6:01]
just Integrity in how this is held and
[6:03]
assessed the Integrity of any volunteer
[6:05]
program depends not only on the
[6:07]
contributions of its volunteers but on
[6:09]
the willingness of leadership to be
[6:10]
accountable when trust is compromised
[6:13]
please include this message in my file
[6:15]
as part of the ongoing review warm

Summary
Sam reads aloud an email he sent to Allison Watson, engagement programs manager at Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, after being dismissed from his volunteer position. The email documents specific incidents with staff members Ryan and Logan, including inappropriate language, unprofessional behavior, and boundary issues. Sam describes patterns of accountability resistance, mentions awareness of similar issues with other volunteers, and requests the message be included in his file. He frames this video as his final statement on the matter and his way of ensuring the information enters public record since his email was ignored.
